Abusivo non è chi restituisce all’uso dei cittadini una struttura abbandonata da anni e ritenuta pericolosa per l’incolumità degli stessi, ma piuttosto il potere che per anni espropria i cittadini, per incuria, delle strutture che potrebbero migliorarne la vita.
Abusive is not the one who returns to the use of citizens a structure abandoned for years and considered dangerous to their safety, but rather the power that for years expropriates citizens, through neglect, of structures that could improve their lives.
Fondata nel 1981, l’ass. culturale Gruppo Risveglio dal Sonno – GRIDAS di Felice Pignataro, Mirella La Magna, Franco Vicario e altri, è un gruppo all’avanguardia che cambia il linguaggio e le pratiche dell’attivismo politico, radicato in un ambito popolare – e povero – che decide di “mettere le proprie capacità artistiche, culturali, al servizio della gente per stimolare un risveglio delle coscienze e una partecipazione attiva alla crescita della società.” La potenza visionaria dei murales di Felice, che dalle periferie napoletane si irradiano per l’Italia, la bellezza politica dei laboratori partecipati per il recupero della manualità, il cineforum di quartiere che combatte l’isolamento provocato dalla televisione e la nascita del Carnevale di Scampia, segnano l’inizio di una storia di impegno sociale, civile e politico che continua ancora oggi e che ha ispirato nel tempo gruppi di Napoli e di tutta l’Europa. Negli ultimi anni si contrasta l’ottusità delle istituzioni ( l’Acer, ex-Iacp, proprietario dell’immobile e il Comune), che considerano “abusiva” la presenza del GRIDAS nello stabile, che nasce proprio come centro sociale. Vinto un processo penale nel 2013, si aspetta la chiusura del processo d’appello (5 marzo 2024) dopo l’accettazione del ricorso contro una condanna civile giunta nel marzo 2022.

Gruppo Risveglio dal Sonno – GRIDAS by Felice Pignataro, Mirella La Magna, Franco Vicario and others, is an avant-garde group that changes the language and practices of political activism, rooted in a popular – and poor – milieu that decides to “put its artistic and cultural skills at the service of the people to stimulate an awakening of consciences and active participation in the growth of society. The visionary power of Felice’s murals, which radiate from the Neapolitan suburbs all over Italy, the political beauty of the participatory workshops for the recovery of manual skills, the neighbourhood cineforum that combats the isolation caused by television, and the birth of the Scampia Carnival, mark the beginning of a story of social, civil and political commitment that continues to this day and has inspired groups in Naples and throughout Europe over time. In recent years, they have been fighting against the obtuseness of the institutions (the Acer, ex-Iacp, owner of the building, and the municipality), which consider the presence of GRIDAS in the building, which was founded precisely as a social centre, to be ‘abusive’. Having won a criminal trial in 2013, they are awaiting the closure of the appeal process (5 March 2024) after accepting an appeal against a civil conviction that came in March 2022.
